Indigo Spotlight on Project Engineer Associate, Htet Shine

Employee Spotlight: Htet Shine

Position: Project Engineer Associates

  1. Three words to best describe you: Initiative, Enthusiastic, Detail-oriented

  2. Motto or personal mantra: Continuous Improvement

  3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?: I see myself as a reliable technical professional in the renewable energy industry.

  4. True leadership means to you: From my standpoint, true leadership means empowering, goal-oriented and progress-based outcomes at the same time. Some of the leaders prioritize the work done without caring if the process is right, systematic, or not. A true leader cares about the process to be systematic and empowers and creates learning opportunities for the team members while achieving the intended goal. He also finds out if the team members need help from him when they face difficulties.

  5. The funniest or smartest person in the room? Why?: Neither funniest nor smartest, but a balanced mix of two. I enjoy working with a fun team, and the working environment which encourages me to discover and enhance my full potential.

  6. Can’t live without: Money, Improvement

  7. Three words to describe Indigo Energy: Empowering, Flexible, Fun

  8. The most unique part about working at Indigo Energy: Being flexible and everyone is willing to take on challenges.

  9. Favorite part of being a member of Indigo Energy: I joined Indigo Energy as a project engineer associate. All of the project engineer associates have to take different technical roles in rotation such as Design, Installation, Procurement, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) in the solar project management training. Within my first three months at Indigo Energy, I found that I am truly interested in Design. So, the company assigns my workload based on my interest and the career path that I want to proceed with. All of the members at Indigo Energy are delegated tasks according to their interests as well. I like this valuable chance most as a member.

  10. Definition of your success at Indigo Energy: I define my success at Indigo Energy if the solar technical design that I drew

    • is safe by complying with standard codes and regulations,

    • can make ease of installation for the construction engineers,

    • can achieve client satisfaction with the design, and

    • can work at its peak efficiency.

  11. The most challenging experience at Indigo Energy: The foremost challenging time was when I was to deal with the technical aspects of a 6 MW feasibility studies project by myself. My experience in the solar field at that time was short and I did not have hands-on experience on this kind of project before. Apart from my lack of experience, the 6 MW feasibility studies for socialized housing are far more complex than the ones for solar farms.

I also feel stressed and challenging when I have to touch unfamiliar Artist Impression and GIS Profiling projects for the first time. But the client is satisfied with our output and we received good feedback from the clients.

  12. How has Indigo Energy helped you in your career development?: My educational background is in oil and gas-focused mechanical engineering and I did not know anything about renewable energies before joining Indigo Energy. But after working at Indigo Energy, I have got a solid foundation and learned the main technical principles related to renewable energy.

It is no surprise that we would be lazy if we had to do repetitive work every day. In Indigo Energy, it’s not the work that is repetitive, but the learning.  I can constantly learn new things and continuously develop my skills since the tasks and projects gradually become more and more challenging.

In addition, after joining Indigo Energy, I realized that I have a passion for renewable energy technologies, keen on solar being clean, renewable, resilient, and helping to reduce global warming. So, I decided to proceed with my career path in the renewable energy industry. The experiences that I got at Indigo Energy also cover handling solar design software including Helioscope, PV-syst, Homer, Aurora, and Solar.Pro.Tool (SPT). I believe that being skillful in this software would be beneficial for my future career.
